Sword of the High King: A 5th Level Adventure for 5th Edition

Centuries ago, before the fall of the elves, there existed a great king among their people. When the gods smote the elves, the high king rode against them with an army by his side. The king and his army were easily defeated by the combined strength of the gods, and when the dust cleared, all that remained was the king's sword, imbued with a piece of his soul. The elves, as they retreated into the Great Forest, recovered the blade and placed it in a tomb deep within the woods. Over the years, the location of this blade was forgotten, and would have remained that way if not for a gnomish explorer who lost his way. 

Englebert Shacklebot, the famed gnomish explorer, was delving into a part of the Great Forest when he was beset upon by monsters. He fled deeper and deeper into the woods until he fell through what appeared to be the ceiling of a long buried ruin. Inside, he spotted the glimmer of treasure before a great shadow rose up and chased him out. Now, eager to recover the treasure inside, he's planning an expedition back into the Great Forest to the site where the treasure was found. He'll need a band of hardy adventurers to accompany him as he'll need to deal with the creature guarding the lost hoard.
