The island village of Arkwell sits just off the coast of the mainland, a mere ferry ride away. Established centuries prior, it served as a jumping off point for whaling ships during its early years, though these days the docks are quiet save for a handful of small fishing vessels that trawl the bay for whatever it might gift them. Visitors to the island are few and far between, as most who set foot upon its shores describe a strange feeling of being watched and those who stay the night often suffer from horrible dreams. As such, the island exists almost in its own world, frozen in time, repeating foggy day after foggy day.

Recently, Father Elias Dorian of the Church of the Seafather set out on a mission to visit the island and offer prayers to its people. His itinerary was detailed and he informed the church that he would return within a month's time, yet when a month had elapsed, the father was nowhere to be found. The clergy assumed he was simply taking in the sights and enjoying his time out in the field, but when a second month passed without word from him, they began to worry. Letters were sent to the island seeking the father's whereabouts, but they only received a simple reply stating that he had never arrived in the first place. As the church began to trace his movements, they eventually came upon a drunken ferryman in a tavern by the sea. The old seadog told them that he'd personally ferried the father to the island several weeks prior, though he'd warned the priest against going. The island was home to dark secrets, and the light of faith was not welcome there. When pressed for more information, the man simply said: "Don't trust the men with yellow eyes."

With no other leads to go on, and ill-equipped to investigate the disappearance further, the clergy set out to hire mercenaries to find their missing fellow. They told them of the island, the ferryman's words, and begged them to find their brother and bring him home safe. With that, and a sack of coins to pay for their passage, they set out for the coast to visit a foggy island with terrible secrets.
